With my blog, I tend to focus on long or medium form posts while shorter commentary stays in the links section of my main site. I tend to stay away from microblogging on here and keep that to Mastodon given it's ephemeral nature. Riccardo Mori notes the same obersvation in his blog, with long-form articles (less frequent), link posts (more frequent), and social media updates (too frequent).

However, there are sometimes useful discussions that step from posts on Mastodon. If they get converted to long-form posts I tag them at toots on the blog or toot on the linkblog if the commentary is short.

Riccardo has coined a more descriptive name for these posts:

So my idea is this: from now on, any worthwhile thread I write on Mastodon that doesn’t get expanded into a full article on this blog will nonetheless be preserved here as a short-form Elephant Memory Systems entry — EMS for short. (Note the obvious connection Mastodon → Elephant). Where relevant, I will also include the most interesting replies I received in the original Mastodon thread. If they come from private accounts and I think they’re worth sharing, I will ask permission to do so.
