quicksight

I have used this QuickSight post to remind myself how to do this a number of times already and I think it's worth a share. I wouldn't want to find this post or website disappear one day leaving me unable to remind myself how to filter a control based on the input from another control.

To create a contorl you must create a filter, or maybe a parameter? I'm honestly not sure and QuickSight is confusing. So I have one or more visuals in a sheet, and want to filter theses visuals by a parameter (maybe this is where the name comes from). I click the Filter icon and add a filter. Once added, click on the filter and select apply to this sheet, it's currently the square with a graph icon at the top of the filter menu. Now, click on the three dots of the filter, then "Manage control", then "Move to top of sheet". You now have a control at the top of the sheet, select the three dots next to your control, then edit. The "Format control" panel should open on your right, from there select "Show relevant values only" and then tick the other control you want to filter by! That's it!

If you already have a filter on a control set the button will read, "Change relevant values" instead.

This might be confusing to understand, maybe I'll include pictures or a concrete example at some point.
