Over the last month I've seen Michelle Barker's post, Stage Fright, shared multiple times from various blogs I follow. It's wonderfully written and it captures the emotions I feel leading up to and during a speaking engagement. However, what happens towards the end and after is the opposite of what Michelle describes and is probably why public speaking just isn't for me.
That the butterflies in your stomach have become your friends. You settle into a rhythm. The air is alive with electricity, aglow with possibility. You don’t want this to end.
And then suddenly, too soon, it does. But it doesn’t, because there is the afterglow. You bask in it, let it warm you.
The butterflies don't become my friends and I do want this to end of so very much. I'm glad it's over but not happy it happened. I'd much rather reach the same audience though writing.
