NS en ProRail nemen maatregelen vanwege hitte

While sharing some links about the upcoming heatwave and its effects on the Dutch railway I forgot to write about ProRail's comments on moveable bridges! I was reminded by this when reading Martijn van Vulpen's post about the same topic.

Bridges are built with small gaps in the rail to compensate for expansion while hot. ProRail writes that moveable bridges are the most sensitive to hot weather. Martijn has a picture of a DDZ on a rail bridge that goes over the IJssel where he mentionsit has previously malfunctioned due to expansion and is cooled off with water. While looking into this I found that Ledien is closing a few of its moveable bridges this week after seeing issues with the heat despite cooling it off with water.
