Coop beliefert Zürich neu per Güterzug und reduziert jährlich 58 000 Lastwagenfahrten

Trains will be used to transport goods from their distribution centre in Schafisheim, which has an existing rail connection. The last mile from their new hub in Zurich will be taken over by "environmentally friendly trucks".
Für die Feinverteilung in die Verkaufsstellen kommen schrittweise umweltfreundlichere Lastwagen zum Einsatz.
The result will be an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions, as this would save 58000 truck journeys in and out of the city. This would also reduce traffic congestion.

As a side note, Coop also acquired RailCare in 2010, which provides rail transport for their outlets among other retailers in Switzerland.
