NS will be rolling out dark mode on departure at platforms and station halls this month after some tests ealier in September. During the test multiple colour schemes were displayed before settling on the dark blue background, with white text, and yellow used for information about disruptions.

The change from a light background was done to improve readability and reduce energy consumption. People with colour blindless were also consulted along with staff and passengers during the test. Supposidly this also reduced poewr usage by 5%. ProRail intends to replace 3600 departure screens next year which will reduce energy consumption by 30%. This is becuase newer electronics consuming less power and the latest screens being able to adjust their brightness levels depending on the sunlight. It will be intresting to see more details in the yearly sustainability report.

I won't be in the Netherlands to see the screens in person, hopefully sometime soon.
